Last Sunday, 21st September, was our annual match between Rampion Pros/Staff vs. WGC Scratch Team, for the ‘Graham Roberts Putter’ …and what an unbelievable day it was!
The sun shone down, and hundreds of members came to support and spectate. The day was electric with so many close matches and some truly amazing golf on display. For me, the first tee was the most memorable, with hundreds of people cheering both teams! Fair to say my heart rate was through the roof! How they compose themselves in the Ryder Cup, I don’t know!
Despite the Scratch Team being 4-2 up the majority of the day, Team Rampion managed to clinch victory by a point with a late charge! Total score 3.5-2.5. Keep an eye out for the club’s full match report, which is coming out tomorrow! A full highlight video will also become available very soon. We can’t wait to see it! Millie has been posting some brilliant social media content of the day as well- worth a follow on Instagram and Facebook if not doing so already!
Marco Penge, currently 53rd in the world, took to the stage and lived up to all expectations! He showed his talent early with a birdie on the second hole - driver, PW, despite it being into the wind! To put this in perspective, I hit two woods into the hole and still short!
Marco was also a class act after the golf in the Q&A with John Invedale; a true, honest and exciting take on life on tour. Massive thanks to him and all players/caddies for their efforts, and making the day so special. Thanks also to all staff and organisers- the day had lots of planning and everyone from all areas came to help. Incredible.
It certainly is a match to look forward to every year!
